Whelk Fishery and the Cadmium Issue
The whelk fishery in Denmark is on a rise, but several fishing areas have been closed due to high cadmium-levels in the whelk. However, this project is proving that the testprotocol for sampling is inaccurate as samples from the entire snail is taken, without paying attention to the gonads, Hepatopankreas and stomach, which is for the most part not consumed, and is known to hold higher concentrations of cadmium and other heavy metals.
